Located on the northeastern coast of the large 1,930 square kilometers Port Phillip Bay (the locals call it The Bay), Hampton is a suburb of Melbourne, the second most populous city in Australia and the most populous city in the state of Victoria. As a matter of fact, Hampton is located only 14km east of Melbourne’s central business district.

The best months to go to Hampton Beach for wind are January, and February. The following months cannot be classified as the best, but they can prove to be pretty good nonetheless: March and December.

The wind blows from the S, SW, SE (side onshore, side shore) at Force 3-5. The wind is at its peak in the afternoon, from 3-5PM until about 8:30PM.

In the summer the wind tends to be unreliable and gusty. You have a 50-50 chance of having a fun kiteboarding session in the summer.

The water conditions (flat water – thanks to the pier of Sandringham Yacht Club) are suitable for riders of all levels, from the novice who is just now picking up the basics up to the expert who wants to have a bit of fun. Speaking of fun, the conditions here are excellent for freestyle riding.

As mentioned above, Hampton Beach is a flat water spot thanks to the protection offered by the pier. If you go beyond the pier, the water is choppy.

Other useful information 
Give swimmers their space. Hampton Beach is pretty big, so there’s enough space for everyone; you don’t need to be messing about very near to the beach goers by the life saving club.
