Located in the southeast part of Africa, Malawi does not have access to the ocean, unlike its neighbor Mozambique. Just because Malawi does not have access to the ocean doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a spot of kiteboarding here. You can because, you see, Malawi has access to Lake Malawi (a.k.a. Lake Nyasa), the third largest in Africa and the eighth largest lake in the world.

The best months to go to Karonga for wind are May, June, July, August. The following months cannot be classified as the best, but they can prove to be pretty good nonetheless: March, April, September, and October.

In the winter the “Mweras” winds blow from the southeast.

The water conditions are suitable for riders of all levels, from the novice who is just now picking up the basics up to the expert who wants to have a bit of fun. Speaking of fun, the conditions here are excellent for speed, bump and jump, and freestyle riding.

There are no coral reefs and no trees to worry about. The lake's fresh water is warm all year long.
