Shimoni is an African port situated in the southeastern part of Kenya, near the border with Tanzania. Further north you will find the Mwazaro Mangrove Lodge, a no frills lodging choice that caters to about 30 people, and Mwazaro beach, a place where you can enjoy a fun kiteboarding session.

Should you decide to go do that – enjoy some kiteboarding at Mwazaro – here are the details you need to know about:

Wind
The best months to go to Mwazaro for wind are January, February, March, April, and December. The following months cannot be classified as the best, but they can prove to be pretty good nonetheless: May, June, July. August, and September. The wind blows from the NE, E, SE (onshore, side onshore) at Force 4-5.

Water
The water conditions are suitable for riders of all levels, from the novice who is just now picking up the basics up to the expert who wants to have a bit of fun. Speaking of fun, the conditions here are excellent for speed, and freestyle riding.

The water is knee to waist deep; it is pretty warm all year long, which means you will not need a wetsuit. You will need to protect yourself from the sun though.

Other useful information
This place truly is in the middle of nowhere. It is also a private beach. This is a good thing; it means you will definitely have your privacy. It is also a peaceful, quite place – so no nightlife.
The following facilities are available: school, launch area, rescue, gear rental, toilets, showers, food, accommodation, parking.
