Established back in 1939 by members of the Gordonia youth movement, Newe Yam is a kibbutz (a collective community in Israel) located on the Mediterranean Sea, in the northern part of Israel. If you are familiar with Haifa, and you should be since it is the third-largest city in Israel and the largest city in northern Israel, here’s a bit of info that should better put things in perspective – Newe Yam is some 20km south of Haifa.

Now that you know where Newe Yam is located, here are the main bits and pieces you need to know about this destination, should you decide to go there to do a bit of kiteboarding and/or windsurfing:

Wind
The best months to go to Newe Yam for wind are March, April, May, September, October, November, and December.

The wind blows from the N (in spring and autumn) and W (in winter) at speeds that vary from Force 3 to Force 5. The wind blows in the afternoon.

In spring the wind blows at 12 to 20 knots; it’s a side shore wind. In summer the wind blows at speeds ranging from 3 up to 12 knots. In autumn the side shore wind blows at 12 to 20 knots, just like in spring. In winter there’s hardly any wind; when there’s wind, it’s gusty.

Water
The water conditions are suitable for riders of all levels, from the beginner who is just now picking up the basics up to the pro who wants to have a bit of fun. Speaking of fun, it must be mentioned that Newe Yam is best suited for speed and waveriding.

Apart from the jelly fish that show up from time to time, Newe Yam is perfectly safe.

There’s a small island some 300m out; riders go around it.

The water temperature is of about 16 to 20° C in autumn and winter. The water temperature is of about 22° C to 30° C in spring and summer.
