All types of kiteboarders and windsurfers, from the novices up to the advanced and pro riders, will like the conditions offered by Fuerteventura, the second largest of the Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of Africa. There is much to like about this Spanish island. Here are the bits and pieces that immediately come to mind:

- The wind blows at 15 to 25 knots; the trade wind blows from the north or north-east and is most reliable from June/July. If you’re looking for more wind, go to Fuerteventura in the summer, that’s when the wind picks up the most speed. If you’re looking for more swell, go to Fuerteventura in the winter. It must be mentioned here that the south of Fuerteventura has more wind than the north; but the north has more swell. It should also be mentioned that Fuerteventura translates to “strong winds”.
- The water conditions vary from 2m high waves to smooth flat water.
- You can go to the following beaches: Flag Beach, Glass Beach, Punta de Blanca, and El Cotillo.
- If you want something to do when the sun goes down, you can enjoy the night life in Corralejo.
- If you want to do something other than kiteboarding/windsurfing, you can go diving, go-karting, take a catamaran cruise, or take a helicopter tour of the island.
- There are plenty of bars and places to eat.

The climate in Fuerteventura is pleasant all year long, and that is why Fuerteventura is also known as “the island of eternal spring”. The temperature during the winter months is between 59°F (15°C) and 72°F (22°C); the temperature during the summer months is between 68°F (20°C) and 95°F (35°C).

Maui, Hawaii is considered to be one of the best places for kiteboarding, windsurfing and other watersports. What’s that got to do with Fuerteventura? Well, the conditions in Fuerteventura are as close to Hawaii as you can get without spending 17 hours on a plane to Hawaii. If you depart from the UK, you will have to take a 10-hour plane to the US, then take another 7-hour plane to Maui, Hawaii. If you head to Fuerteventura, you will spend 4 hours on the plane.
