The Surfbeach at Lake Balaton, is located on the south shore, between Siófok and Sóstó. The freshwater Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe and one of Hungary’s best known tourist destinations. Since the Hungarians are not fortunate enough to have access to a sea, they call Lake Balaton the “Hungarian Sea”. The town of Siófok, thanks to its beaches and good climate, is a very popular destination. So popular in fact that the locals call it “the capital of Balaton” and the “party capital of Hungary”. So popular that it is one of the richest municipalities in Hungary.

Should you decide to go to Surfbeach at Lake Balaton to do a bit of kiteboarding or windsurfing, here are the main things you need to know about:

The best months to go to Lake Balaton for wind are May, June, July and August. You can also go in April, September and October – these are not the best months for wind, but they’re still pretty good.
The wind at Lake Balaton blows mainly from the N and NW (onshore and side onshore); it can reach Force 6.

The average water temperature during the summer is 25°C, which means you will not need a wetsuit.
The water is shallow for a couple hundred meters. Beginners can use this shallow water to work on their skills.
