Pretty much ever windsurfer and/or kiteboarder out there has heard that Maui, Hawaii is a top notch windsurfing/kiteboarding venue. The problem with Maui is that, if you’re from Europe, it will take a long time to get there. Passionate windsurfers/kiteboarders can find an equally good venue closer to home, in Fuerteventura, the second largest of the Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of Africa.

Passionate windsurfers/kiteboarders can go to Northern Fuerteventura or they can go to Sotavento Fuerteventura. We’ve covered northern Fuerteventura in another article; now we will focus on Sotavento Fuerteventura. Here are the main bits and pieces you need to know about this destination:

The best months to go Sotavento Fuerteventura are April, May, June, July, August and September. The trade winds blow from the NE at speeds that vary between 15 and 25 knots. You need to note that the cross offshore breeze is always gusty.
