Cabrinha Welcomes Liam Whaley to the Team
Earlier this week, kiteboarding equipment manufacturer Cabrinha announced that it welcomed a talented young rider to its team. That new rider in question is 15-years old Liam Whaley from Tarifa, Spain.
"My focus is on freestyle. I think living in Tarifa (the wind capital of Europe) I have a big advantage. Most days in Tarifa you'll find good windy conditions to train with plenty of opportunity to ride with and learn from world class champions. My dream is to become world champion by age 18, or sooner if possible! ;-) I consider myself pretty lucky to have my family and now Cabrinha supporting me on the journey to accomplish my dream!" said Whaley.
The young rider, the youngest rider on the PKRA World Tour as a matter of face, made quite an impression at the Mondial du Vent 2012 event. During the single elimination he wowed the crowds and the judges by taking out World Champion Youri Zoon and by defeating local favorite Sebastian Garat. Liam eventually lost to Alberto Rondia, but ended up claiming 3rd place in the singles. And during the doubles he made an impression with his immense power and consistency.
Liam did not claim a spot on the podium at the Mondial du Vent 2012 freestyle event – but that does not mean that he did not walk away with an award. Liam and Manuela Jungo won the “Rookie of Mondial du Vent” award. Here’s a pic of Liam on the stage during the award ceremonies at the Mondial du Vent.
