Damien Leroy Breaks Speed Record in Hawaii

At Shipwrech Beach in Maui, Damien Leroy rode in 30 knot winds and was clocked at 44.33 knots, thus breaking the existing record.

When regular folk go to Hawaii, they go to relax and have fun in the sun. When Cabrinha-sponsored pro rider and winner of the 2011 AWSI (Association of Wind & Watersports Industries) Kiteboarder of the Year award Damien Leroy goes to Hawaii, he goes there to break records.

Damien Leroy and Alex Aguera went to Maui with the aim of utilizing the summer trades to the max and break the Hawaiian Speed Sailing Record in 30 knot winds. And that is precisely what they did. On his 7m Cabrinha Switchblade kite, Aguera racing board, and using Ristafins advanced kite race fins, Damien Leroy managed to hit 44.33 knots, thus smashing the Hawaiian Speed Record.
