Get Ready for the 2018 Master of the Ocean

CABARETE, Dominican Republic —  February 18 , 2018 — Master of the Ocean, the world’s most elite wáter sports competition, announced the launching of an intense event campaign, called Master of the Ocean|The Festival.  Coming up next Saturday, February 24th is the first of these Festivals, to be celebrated in Kite Club, Cabarete, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. The exciting and festive event will host outstanding athletes, who will practice the four disciplines of surf, windsurf, kitesurf and SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding), for the enjoyment of water sports and ocean fans.

This new Festival is part of an on-going strategic campaign expected to grow and expand in time. It consists of four adrenaline-filled one-day events, celebrating water sports during 2018. The Festivals will attract surf, wind surf, kitesurf and SUP lovers; they will get a chance to witness first-hand the amazing feats of the riders over wind and waves, while enjoying a day at a tropical beach with music and entertainment.
The Festival’s mission is to elevate water sports and its protagonists, the athletes, while highlighting the Dominican Republic and the Cabarete community as the world’s capital of water sports.

The first Master of the Ocean Festival will take off on Friday, February 23rd at 6:00 p.m., at the Hotel Millennium Resort and Spa. The next day, on Saturday, February 24th, visitors and locals alike will marvel to see the riders in action at Kite Beach.  The fun-filled day will culminate with the customary IndepenDance ,  an epic party “tipo Cabarete” by the sea, at LAS|OJO Club.

Master of the Ocean is proud to have the sponsorship of the Ministry of Tourism of Dominican Republic. The Godominican brand has offered the event specially strategic support on a global level through its 27 international offices in 8 languages.

The Festivals will give momentum to the main event which all have been eagerly awaiting: the main competition already planned for February 2019. The Master of the Ocean Competition brings five days of fierce races, free-style expression sessions and good music on the beach. Naturally, the celebrations will take place in Cabarete.
This town was originally known as a rural community, until it grew into the Mecca of extreme water sports, due to its year round ideal climatic conditions. The Master of the Ocean event always culminates with a super party, IndepenDance, on February 27th; this is in honor of Dominican Republic’s celebration of its Independence Day. IndepenDance brings together athletes and fans by great numbers, melting together in the quintessential Cabarete experience.

Cabarete owns spectacular conditions for the pickiest of international athletes; they arrive to this magical spot, lured by the unique conditions of wind, temperature, waves and warm community.
The Master of the Ocean was born in 2003, as the Ironman of warter sports, and in its next and new format we will see 8 teams, containing four athletes (each specializing in one of the four disciplines). Besides, 8 Overall athletes will battle each other, as they master all four disciplines; these 8 ocean gladiators will fight for the coveted title of the Master of the Ocean. The past three titles have gone to undefeated Zane “InZane” Schweitzer, world champion waterman from Hawaii.

This February 24th, get ready to hang out with veterans Luciano González (Master of the Ocean 4 times titleholder) from Cabarete,  Michael “Gebi” Gebhardt, who is considered the finest kite surfing coach on the planet, as he trains Olympians and holds 2 prestigious medals; Brandon Sanford, outstanding waterman owning all the disciplines, local; Diego Anta, coming from Spain and known for his zeal and dexterity in windsurf, kite and bikes; Adeuri Corniel crowned star in 206 for flying off with the World Kiteboarding League rookie of the year title; Giorgina Mongi, U.K., also a shining kiter, with a passion for sharks and the ocean, and Suami Cavallo, the talented young woman with the radical attitude  whom the world is talking about for her great performance in the last Kiteboarding League Tour.

As part of Master of the Ocean vision, the Festival confirms its support to the young local athletes who train in Cabarete, getting ready for the next Youth Olympic games, to be celebrated in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2020. Marcus Bohm states: “We are so proud to have hosted the first qualifying event, which took place last January in our beaches. Our young riders will for sure shine in the next Olympic events to be held in Dakhla (Morocco) y Pranburi (Thailand) and for sure we expect some medals to come home after the main event in Buenos Aires.”
“Our kids have the most magnificent Olympic training grounds on the planet art their disposal. Cabarete has ideal climatic conditions. Our North Shore has so much to offer in terms of weather conditions, so that athletes from all over the world come over to practice water sports, all year long. One might not be able to say that of countries with cold weather,” says Bohm.

Marcus Bohm and her partner, Communications Expert Patricia Hiraldo, expressed their enthusiasm about bringing once more to Dominicans and to the world alike, the joy and adrenaline of water sports, while at the same time shining a light on the amazing destination that is Cabarete, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
