The Luderitz Speed Challenge Is On

The Luderitz Speed Challenge is one of the most prestigious water sports competitions ever. It gathers the fastest kitesurfers and windsurfers in the world for an amazing speed sailing challenge. It is an event that has revolutionized the sports of kiteboardind and windsurfing. This event takes place in the harbor town of Luderitz, in south-west Namibia, one of the least hospitable coasts in Africa, on a special canal that provides the perfect venue for speed sailing.

And the preparations for the 2014 event are on the way. The world’s fastes riders are expected to compete for personal, national and world records. Kiteboarders and windsurfers will see a new speed strip, with improvements made based on relevant feedback from competitors. The goal is to record faster speeds in less wind power.

Alex Caizergues currently holds the world speed kiteboarding record at 56.62 knots, set in Salin-de-Giraud. We bet that the guys competing in the Luderitz Speed Challenge are preparing to break it. At the same time, many speed sailing records were established last year and we sure hope this year they will be broken. Up to date, the Challenge established 11 world and 64 national records.

The 2014 Luderitz Speed Challenge is scheduled to take place between the 6th of October and 2nd of November, depending on weather conditions. Stay tuned to find out more.
