PKRA France: What Happened So Far

Just as scheduled, the Mondial du Vent 2011 (PKRA France for short) kicked off on the 23rd of April in Port Leucate, in the south of France. The good news is that numerous riders from more than 20 countries registered for the event. To be completely honest, this is hardly surprising. For several years now this competition has drawn in an international crowd.

During the first day of the competition, April 23rd, the wind conditions varied from 15 to 20 knots. The riders had to struggle with the wind and the strong currents. It was so bad that at one point the organizers had to halt the trials. The trial elimination was eventually held in a lagoon later in the evening.

The second day of PKRA France, April 24th, was a windless day. Since it was Easter anyway, the riders and crew shared some laughs, had some ice-cream and cotton candy, and talked about kiteboarding. Due to the lack of wind, the freestyle trials were postponed.

15 to 25 knots winds blew during the 3rd day of PKRA France, April 25th. The wind was gusty, but still, the single elimination could be held. Things didn’t go that smooth on the 3rd day either. The third round of the singles elimination had to be halted because of a thunderstorm that rolled in, bringing with it some “fierce rain” as the PKRA called it.

And so we get to the 4th day of PKRA France, April 26th. On this day the wind blew at 25 to 35 knots. The single elimination that was halted the previous day was continued, and the double elimination took place.

In the men’s division, the results of the single elimination are:
