Sam Lutman-Pauc Sets New English Channel Kite Cross Record

Husband, father and kitesurfer, Sam Lutman-Pauc lives by the motto “We all need a little time to escape the crazy routine of life.” And to escape his daily routine, Sam has set on a journey to break the world record for the fastest kiteboard crossing of the English Channel, between England and France. And he succeeded.

He managed to complete the journey from Dungeness, in the United Kingdom to Wissant, France in 1 hour and 51 minutes. He beat the previous record, recorded by Sam Branson, the son of eccentric billionaire Richard Branson, by 27 minutes. Sam Branson’s record was set in July this year.

The first part of Sam Lutman-Pauc was easy enough, with good waves, steady winds and warm sun rays. However, 10 miles off the UK coast, the swells rose up to four meters in height. He also encountered a huge tanker which slowed him down a bit, due to the fact that it was on a collision course with his board. He managed to reach Wissant Beach in five to ten knots winds, under grey skies, becoming fastest man ever to kitesurf across the English Channel.

The GPS data for the record attempt is to be confirmed by the Guinness World Records officials. Sam Lutman-Pauc will not stop here. He plans to set a new World Record, by sailing straight from the UK to France, and then back to Britain in the near future.
