Sunrise Sunset 2011: Ride for Charity, Help the Fight against Cancer

The Sunrise Sunset 2011 event will take place on the 1st of May at several venues all over the UK. Windsurfers, kiteboarders, and other users of non-powered watercrafts have the chance to ride for charity and help the fight against cancer.

The event is organized by Windsurfing4CancerResearch (W4CR) registered charity no. 1128492 set up by David Tuttlebee, who sadly lost his fight against cancer. He founded W4CR back in March 2009 and passed away in September 2010. The event is supported by the RYA (the British national body for all forms of boating) and is part of the RYA-organized National Windsurfing Week that takes place between May 1st and May 8th.

The goal of the Sunrise Sunset 2011 event is to have as many people ride from sunrise until sunset. More than 400 people took part in the Sunrise Sunset 2010 event; for 2011 the organizers hope to have more than 1,000 riders out on the water at midday. The organizers hope to do better from a financial point of view as well. The 2009 event raised more than £25,000 while the 2010 event raised more than £56,000. For 2011 the organizers hope to raise more than £100,000.

All the money raised by the Sunrise Sunset 2011 will be donated to worthy cancer related causes. In the past the money went to the following: Bobby Moore Fund, The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign, Macmillan Cancer Support, Cancer Research UK, John Hartson Foundation, Breast Cancer Care, and Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
