Top Riders Coming to Poland this July

This July top windsurfers and kiteboarders will show off their skills in Sopot, a seaside town in northern Poland. That’s because Sopot, and more to the point Sopot Sailing Club Ergo Hestia, will be home to the 2011 European Course Racing Championships, competition which will be held from the 26th of July until the 30th of July; a Kite Race Course European Championship and Formula Windsurfing Polish Open will be held as part of the 2011 European Course Racing Championships.

The competition will be held during the Ergo Hestia Cup and has a prize purse of €14000 (and counting). Besides cash prizes, competitors have something else to look forward to – the 407 points for the Course Racing World Ranking the 2011 European Course Racing Championships has to offer.

To make the 2011 European Course Racing Championships as exciting for the spectators as possible, Sopot Sailing Club Ergo Hestia will set up fan zones near Sopot pier and Sopot beach, will hold special events such as kiteboarders vs windsurfers volleyball tournaments, and will put up a large screen that will feature footage from the racecourse and live results.

Three time Formula Windsurfing World Champion, Marta Hlavaty commented:
“This season I’m coming back to windsurfing after a year break. Now I have two beautiful sons and a great husband. I can’t really judge what my chances are. The Polish Open which will be joined with the Kiteboarding European Championships will be a great and exciting event. I think the crowd will have a good time with attractive sailing on the water. I would like to invite everybody to the event and hope to be in good form and finish in the top 3.”
