Top Windsurfers Turn to Kiteboarding

As kiteboarding will replace windsurfing at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, it seems that several top windsurfers are turning towards kiteboarding and we will see them on the kiteboarding scene very soon. Although a “war” has started between the kiteboarding and windsurfing community, kiteboarding did not chose to be pitched against windsurfing at the 2016 Olympics and it is sad not to see windsurfing in Rio.

According to Dutch officials, Dorian van Rijsselberghe, the Olympic men's RS:X windsurfing champion, is considering taking up kiteboarding and will soon go to California to start training. Another Olympic windsurfer, Nick Dempsey, who won silver in the men’s RS:X fleet in London, said that he has already ordered some kites as he would like to continue Olympic sailing.

These are just two of the windsurfers who are ready to make the switch to kiteboarding for the 2016 Olympics, but it is very possible that many others will make this switch in the near future. We are waiting to see how they will perform against the top kite racers and we’ll keep you up to date with the news.
