You Can’t Win Everything, Says Youri Zoon

This season, Slingshot-sponsored Dutch Youri Zoon was unstoppable. He won every heat and defeated everyone he went up against – until the Nissan Noumea Kitesurf Pro that is. Youri’s winning streak came to an end during the final event of the 2011 PKRA World Tour.

During the single elimination at the Nissan Noumea Kitesurf Pro, the quarter finals to be more precise, Youri lost in favor of North-sponsored German rider Mario Rodwald. The general consensus after the singles was that Youri will make a comeback. Everyone was betting that Youri would bounce back and win the event.

Then the doubles commenced and the bet seemed to pay off. Youri seemed invincible once again. He defeated Tom Hebert (FRA, Takoon), he defeated Sebastien Garat (FRA, RRD), he got revenge on Mario Rodwald (GER, North), and he defeated Alberto Rondina (ITA, Cabrinha). But then he went against Marc Jacobs (NZL, Switch Kites) and he did not win anymore. Marc won instead. He did so by matching Youri’s power and by adding a few technical tricks in the mix.

The Nissan Noumea Kitesurf Pro ended with Alex Pastor claiming 1st place, the abovementioned Marc Jacobs claiming 2nd, and Youri Zoon claiming third.

“You can’t win everything”, said Youri Zoon, who was quite pleased that he won six heats in a row against some of the best kitesurfers in the world and quite pleased to claim a spot on the podium.
