La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge started back in 1998 and was initiated by Big-H Enterprises with the aim to assist in the development of Belize’s tourism and in raising consciousness about Belize’s natural resource base. It has grown over the years into a renowned water sport event.

You must know that this is of the toughest paddle races in the world and you need skills and determination for this challenge. Competitors will paddle three days on the Macal and Belize rivers and stop at three different locations for station prizes along the way it their quest for the first place.

The race route rakes them on a 26 mile course, from the Hawksworth Bridge that connects Santa Elena to San Ignacio to one side of the Belcan Bridge or on the Belcan Bridge itself. You can compete on kayak, canoe or SUP crafts. A cool party and awards ceremony awaits you at the finish.
