Lake Ontario Crossing 2016

Lake Ontario Crossing 2016

Period: Sep 10 - Sep 11, 2016
Location: Toronto, Canada

The Lake Ontario Crossing is Canada’s first and only open-water distance race for SUP and prone paddlers. The 32 mile, point-to-point course matches the standard established by the Molokai-to-Oahu crossing in Hawaii and the Catalina Classic in California. Registration is open for SUP, prone, OC and surfski.

The Lake Ontario Crossing will be run on one of three possible courses, depending on expected conditions. While priority will be set to run the race on the “traditional” route, the unpredictable nature of the conditions requires alternates to improve the odds of a safe, enjoyable, and still-challenging event. All courses are subject to change.

These courses have been chosen to accommodate varying wind directions, and each one has been specifically set to cover 32 miles. Completing any of them will mark a significant open-water paddling achievement. Air and water temperatures typically run around 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit. Conditions can range from flat water to 20 kt winds and four-foot swells.

The Lake Ontario Crossing takes place on the 10th and 11th of September. For more details, please visit the official website.
