Bart de Zwart Claims the SUP 11-City Tour Crown

Over 100 riders from more than 15 countries took part in the 6th annual SUP 11-City Tour Crown, a competition that has put their skills, strength and endurance to the test. On the first day, Jay Hasley and Peter Bartl started strong, but Bart de Zwart and Martijn van Deth caught up with them and Bart managed to win the first leg of the event.

The same lead group came together on day two, battling for the first places. Peter crossed the finish first, only 0.8 seconds ahead of Bart. On the third and fourth day, the podium seemed to be secured. Bart, Peter and Martijn extended their lead over the rest of the riders. It came down to a sprint each of the two days with Bart edging out on both sprints and extending his lead over Peter and Martijn.

On the final day, Peter gave everything he had, paddling the highest speeds seen in this competition thus far. Martijn dropped from the lead pack on the first minutes, and Bart managed to stay on Peter’s tail. Bart and Peter sprinted into the final city of Leeuwarden after 22 hours of paddling. Bart crossed the line first, claiming the 11-City crown for the fourth time. Peter finished second and Martijn third overall.

In the women’s division, Netherlands’ Janneke Smits dominated every stage of the competition, claiming the crown. She was followed by UK’s Joanne Hamilton-Vale in the second position and Sweden’s Maya Persson on the third place.
