Colin McPhillips and Antoine Delpero Win Day 1 Heats at ISA World StandUp Paddle and Paddleboard Championship

The ISA World StandUp Paddle and Paddleboard Championship has started The competition takes place at Miraflores, Lima, Peru and gathers some of the best SUP riders in the world, including Jamie Mitchell, Colin McPhillips and Antoine Delpero.

There were only surfing heats running in the first day, so every rider focused on the waves. Colin McPhillips from Team USA and Antoine Delpero from Team France were the best. They won the Heats from day 1 and are waiting forward for day 2 of the competition. McPhillips won the Qualifying Round 1 with a score of 16.33 and Delpero with a score of 14.73.

McPhillips stated: “It’s always nice to get that first heat done, my legs were a little shaky and stuff, but it worked out. […]Everyone is just having fun, everyone’s friendly and it’s going to be a really good week.”, and Delpero added: “It’s a good wave, good for StandUp. With a standup board and a paddle in the hand, you can take anything.”

At Women’s it was Karina Figl from Austria who won the Day 1 Heats. She said: “Austria’s not a big surfing power, although we’ve got talent. […] I feel very, very fortunate, very blessed to be here.”

The ISA World StandUp Paddle and Paddleboard Championship continues with the Qualifying Round 2 for Men’s SUP Surfing and the Women’s Technical Paddleboard Race.
