The First Jamie Mitchell Surfing Australia SUP Camp Was a Success

Jamie Mitchell, one of the most complete watermen ever, and a 10X Molokai to Oahua champion and Battle of the Paddle winner has recently returned to Australia from the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championships in Peru, where he TravelSIM Team Australia to the victory.
But soon after his return, the great champ has organized the first edition of the Jamie Mitchell Surfing Australia SUP Camp, a two day camp intended to reveal the secrets behind SUP surfing to all fans of this sport. Jamie teamed up with Justin Holland, another Australian SUP champion and together they hosted the camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre. The SUP camp was supported by Australian Sports Commission and Suncorp.

This was no ordinary SUP camp, as Jamie and Justin put the participants to work right from the start. Good training shapes a good rider after all. At the inaugural edition of the Jamie Mitchell Surfing Australia SUP Camp, the participants took part in flat water paddle sessions, surf sessions in a downwinder and discovered how to master the SUP board and paddle.

At the end, Jamie Mitchell stated: “My sport has given me so much over the years so I’m happy to be able to give something back at a camp like this. Surfing Australia is getting right behind SUP so it’s an honour to have a camp like this in my name.... It was a great group. Everyone was here to learn as much as they could and soak up as much information as possible so hopefully Justin and I have given them plenty to work on to get more out of their SUP.”

All participants had a great time at the inaugural edition of the Jamie Mitchell Surfing Australia SUP Camp and we are sure they can’t wait for the next edition of the camp.
