Jackson Close Steps on the SUP Scene

Jackson Close, the defending Australian longboard champion, will have a busy schedule during the Australian Surf Festival which will take place at Port MacQuarie, New South Wales, between the 11th and 25th of August. That is because the skilled surfer got involved in SUP for some while and won the Queensland SUP surfing titles. He will represent Queensland in the Stand-Up Paddleboard competition hosted by the Australian Surf Festival and he will also have to defend his title in the Longboard division.

The Australian Surf Festival supported by Essential Energy will be a huge event. It will gather more than 500 athletes that will compete across five disciplines and 34 titles in Longboard, Open Surf Masters, Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP), Alaia and Single Fin and SUP racing divisions. Jackson Close looks forward to compete: “I’m not sure why but it’s always easier to go from longboarding into the SUPs at an event and not the other way around. I change a fair bit as to which one I’m enjoying the most but I’m just happy to take out whatever watercraft is available.
I’m really looking forward to this year’s titles and I’m sure Queensland can put on a good show not just in the longboarding, but also in the SUPs as the titles just held were probably one of the hardest SUP events I’ve ever competed in.”
