Jamie Mitchell and Candice Appleby Are the 2012 Ta-hoe Nalu Paddle Champs

The Ta-hoe Nalu Paddle Festival is considered one of the most important SUP events in the US. And this year’s festival gathered some of the greatest riders ever, in spite of the heat and still conditions on the water. During the two days of the event, the riders staged an incredible show and the audience was delighted.

In the 10 mile Men’s race, Jamie Mitchell won the first place, after an early dismount for the beach finish, beating Chase Kosterlitz by only a few hundredths of a second in a tight foot race. Jay Wild came in third.

In the women’s race, Candice Appleby won the first place, defeating Brandi Baksic who also had a great performance. Allison Riddle took the third place. Brandi said: “I haven’t been at this race since 2010 when it was windy and there were gnarly conditions. This year it was flat and hot, but on the way back it got a little wompy out there. Candice and I were together for the first 6 miles, but it challenging with boat wake during the last few miles and I didn’t handle it as well as her- Candice was super strong and powerful.”

During the second day of the Ta-hoe Nalu Paddle festival, the riders took part in the Jamie Mitchell Survivor Sprint Race. This contest was held in an elimination format for the men and a point system for women. 32 men and 13 women started the sprint race.
In the end, after the points from the two days were added up, Jamie Mitchell and Candice Appleby were declared champs.
