Journey from Canada to Mexico with Will Schmidt

Southern California’s Will Schmidt is a determined and skilled ocean athlete. And these days, he enters into history as the athlete who completed the first consecutive Canada To Mexico voyage via the Pacific Ocean solo on a SUP board.

Will set on his journey on the 24th of May on a SIC F-16 board from Neah Bay, WA to Swiftsure Bank in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. He paddled south 1386 miles to the USA/Mexico border fence in Border Field State Park, Imperial Beach, CA. His amazing journey lasted for 61 days and he paddled a total of 58 days. He completed his journey at approximately 6:45pm on Saturday, the 26th of July.

Will became the first solo and completely unassisted stand up paddler to navigate from Canada to California as well as first solo and largely unassisted stand up paddler to navigate from Canada to Mexico. This is indeed an impressive performance. And statistics are impressive too: 1386 miles paddled, 1.1 million paddle strokes, 28 miles average distance per day and more.

Will Schmidt paddles as a brand ambassador for SIC, Oakley, Nemo Equipment, Carapace Wetsuits, Astral Designs, Black Diamond Equipment, Swiss Barefoot Company, and the Wounded Warrior Project. He also seeks donations through his crowd-funding site Are You Inspired Yet to benefit active duty and veteran US service members suffering from post combat anxiety, depression, PTSD, and traumatic brain injury and you can help him too by making a small donation.
