SUP Tips from Sean Poynter: the Right Surf Break

Elite rider Sean Poynter is one of the ambassadors of SUP. That is why he initiated the How-to SUP series, to promote the beauty of the sport and help water sports enthusiasts pick up the basics of the sport faster and easier.

As a beginner, it’s recommended to choose the right surf break when venturing out on the water. Here are a few things to consider when doing that:

- Choose slow and soft waves for you to practice and gain your muscle memory before progressing
- Stay in the ankle to waist high range waves (1-3ft) till you gain confidence and skills
- Ride less crowded waves as a beginner, to learn how to maneuver the board efficiently and avoid injuring other riders or yourself
