The XSUP Games Start Soon

If you think ‘you got game’ and you want more intense action than doing a turn or two around a few buoys, the XSUO Games await you. The XSUP Games is a sport played by two teams of 4 players with the objective of scoring goals.

As you can imagine, the game involves a SUP board and paddle, but also a SAC. It’s like football on water to a certain extent. And these are the rules:

- The Field: A rectangular shape with end zones at each end. A regulation field is 50 yards by 30 yards, with end zones 10 yards deep.

- Initiate Play: Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective end zone line. The defense throws the SAC to the offense. A regulation game has up to seven players per team.

- Scoring: Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense’s end zone, the offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score.

- Movement of the SAC: The SAC may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not paddle with the SAC. The person with the SAC (“thrower”) has ten seconds to throw the SAC. The defender guarding the thrower (“marker”) counts out the stall count.

- Change of Possession: When a pass is not completed (e.g. out of bounds or interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the SAC and becomes the offense.  When a pass is not completed (e.g. block or incomplete), the SAC is in play and open to both teams.

- Substitutions: Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury timeout.

- Non-contact: No physical contact with paddles is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when paddle contact is made.

- Fouls: When a player initiates paddle contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.

- Self-Officiating: Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.

- Spirit of the Game: Ultimate SAC stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.

The XSUP Games organizers are happy to announce the host site for the inaugural season: Newport Dunes resort in Newport Beach, California. This is a perfect facility, with calm waters and in proximity to many restaurants for post-game celebrations. The Games will take place on Thursdays from 6 pm to 8 pm, starting from the 5th on June, and you can register for the competition between May 17 and May 31 on the XSUP Games website.

And remember that the goal of The XSUP Games is to build a community of people who love to paddle, have fun, and enjoy the water together.
