Stop Losing Speed When Turning

Stop Losing Speed When Turning

Do you have problems planning through a jibe? You’ve seen others plane through a jibe with ease, so you know it can’t be done, but when you try to do it, it’s like the forces of the universe conspire against you? It’s not the forces of the universe that should carry the blame; you are to blame.

The most common problem that makes planning through a jibe pretty much impossible is that you’re losing speed midway through the turn.

What should you do? Stop losing speed midway through the turn, of course.
How can you do that? You could try to bear off and sail sheeted in farther through the turn. You will thus be forced to carve less, which in turn translates to more speed through the end of the turn.
