Two Reactions that Cause Novices to Wipe Out
Whenever you hit a lull, do you have the tendency to pull on the boom because you lost your balance when the sail lost power and you want to regain your balance? If you do, then you know that by pulling on the boom you wipe out. What you should do when you hit a lull and the sail loses power is to pull down on the boom and transfer your weight through the mast foot.
When trying to compensate for a shift in the wind, do you have the tendency to pull on your back hand and stand hard on the rail? By doing so you will once again wipe out. What you should do is transfer pressure into the mast foot, which you can do by pulling down and not out on the boom. Alternatively you can hook in and just sit in the harness.
