Starboard’s windsurfing board lineup for 2010 is one of the most extensive ones ever. It covers all possible styles, skill levels and conditions. The new Flare is here to take freestyle to whole new levels.

The board is designed after the successful pattern of the previous 2009 model, and features some new enhancements that will make all freestylers love it. The 2010 model has a narrower tip and the volume is increased in the tail area to minimize drag and offer fast turns and speeds. Also the fin box is positioned towards the back and the V design of the tip is slightly reduced to improve steering and permit the rider to rotate the board easy and quick. The balanced volume distribution and refined edges create enhanced stability and permit the board to sustain a heavier rider. For the 2010 Flare Starboard has implemented a new technology called DFC or Dual Flat Concept, which is intended to maximize overall performance. New and thicker rocker lines provide plenty of pop for speed, lifting and extreme moves. Besides power and speed, the Starboard flare offers enhanced maneuverability too, Due to the increased tail volume allows the rider to steer the board very easy and to have absolute control in any situation. Also, the rider has extra comfort due to the use of a domed deck, soft pads and easy adjustable foot straps.

The Flare is also available in the ProKids version, a model which is lighter, has a reduced size and volume, but offers the same performance as the full size one. The Flare is constructed on a Wood Carbon technology which makes it both solid and lightweight.

For optimal efficiency the manufacturer recommends Drake Cross Over fins and a 4.5 to 7.5 square meters sail, depending on size and volume.

It is a very fast board. It jumps high and has smooth landings. It can be a bit difficult to control on top of high waves, but it doesn't lose grip or stability. If you have decent skills this is the board you need to use for tricks....more
