The Flare has always been Starboard’s premier freestyle board. Ever since the first Flare model was released several years ago it has proven to be very successful. A new Flare board is available in 2011 and it is ready to take freestyle discipline to a completely new level. The new board borrows some features from the original flare, but it is carefully tuned to offer better performance. The board offers a unique mix of speed, control and pop and it is perfect for advanced and pro riders. Starboard has implemented a fast and flat rocker line which generates plenty of power and provides accurate control.

This rocker line also propels the board upwind without problems and generates a high top speed. The thicker tail volume combined with the thinner nose and thinner middle section makes the Flare extremely maneuverable and reactive. The rider can perform the most amazing tricks without worrying about losing control even for a second. The board has plenty of pop, so it can perform spectacular aerial tricks with ease. At the same time, the hydrodynamic shape assures smooth and predictable landings. The Flare boards are not only powerful and fast. They are also very comfortable due to the use of heel gutters which define an increased deck dome effect under the feet. This feature assures top comfort and better grip.

Extra comfort is added by the new Drake Deluxe straps. The board comes equipped with a Drake Crossover G10 fin which optimizes power delivery and maximizes grip in tight turns. The fin also provides better lift when needed. A flat V bottom assures a very fluid and smooth glide across the water. The Starboard Flare is available in Wood and Wood Carbon editions. The Starboard team has also crafted a special Flare model for kids. The ProKids Flare is especially optimized for the input of a younger, lighter rider and it is constructed using a Glass/PVC sandwich structure.

It runs almost like the 2010 Flare. The footstraps are improves and it feels a bit looser. The board is solid and reliable as all Starboard boards are.
