Weymouth Speed Week 2014

Weymouth Speed Week 2014

Period: Oct 18 - Oct 24, 2014
Location: Portland Harbour, United Kingdom

Weymouth Speed Week is the oldest and longest-running speed sailing event in the world. The first edition of this prestigious event took place back in 1972. Over the years, it has grown into a world class event which attracts the best speed sailors in the world. It is supported by the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

The event is built around the idea to challenge sailors of a wide variety of wind-powered craft to sail as fast as they can over a distance of 500m with their speed being recorded as the average speed over that distance. You can imagine that the world’s fastest riders compete in this challenge.

The Weymouth Speed Week is a multi-class challenge. It is open to sailboard fleets, kite fleets and boat fleets. Classes are open to pro and amateur riders, as well as to women and men.

The 2014 Weymouth Speed Week takes place in Portland Harbour, beside the Isle of Portland, off Dorset, UK. Opening date for the 2014 event is 18th of October. Opening period is of 7 days. The races will take place in the windiest day. To register and find out additional details, please visit the official website.
