I'm really happy i got the chance to test the new Rebel at demo days. It is the kind of kite that does it all. I'm used to all round kites, but this one is brilliant. Too bad it is a bit too expensive. The 10 m rebel jumps awesome, has goo... read more
North Rebel 2013 Kite Review
Kite Features
North is ready to revolutionize the world of kitesurfing with the new 2013 Rebel. The rebel has always been a great freeride and wave kite, but in 2013 it is even better and able to take these disciplines to a new level. The kite is available in a large size chart and can cover a huge wind range. It blends awesome power with easy handling and can suit all kinds of riders looking for cool action.
• Adaptive Tip
• Relaunch Bungees
• Loaded 5th Line
• Lazy Pump Inflation System
• Short Depower Stroke
Freeride and wave enthusiasts will surely welcome the arrival of the new 2013 North Rebel. Improving a kite which already offers exceptional performance is not an easy task, but the North crew has done it. The new rebel packs more power, it is more accurate and offers a better overall riding experience. The Rebel is even used by the Ozone race team on the World Tour for course racing.
The kite is designed using a reduced diameter which assures more flexibility but also a stiffer front section for increased stability. North has implemented a new strut concept which blends the quick turning and softer feel of three strut kite with the excellent stability of a classic 5-strut design. The Rebel now generates better low end and more responsive turning.
The flattened canopy profile improves top end and prevents flutter or drag. The Loaded 5th Line concept which North team has used when building the kite, provides a crisp and direct bar feel and allow the rider to have total control over the kite when powered or depowered. The fifth line combined with the Iron Heart of the control system assures full depower when needed. Relaunch is also a piece of cake. The Relaunch Bungees positioned at the kite tip get it up in no time and prevent the lines from tangling or position over the kite.
Another interesting concept used in the design of the Rebel is the Trailing Edge Force Spread. This feature assures a smooth power distribution between the fabrics of the kite, keeping it solid and crisp under different loads. The Rebel offers impressive upwind performance. It offers speed, accurate turning, consistent power, total control, good drift abilities, and everything else a freeride or wave enthusiast needs to enjoy a special ride.
