Paddle 4 Cancer 2012

Paddle 4 Cancer 2012

Period: Sep 1 - Sep 1, 2012
Location: Portland, United States

Paddle 4 Cancer is an event organized by Athletes for Cancer, a nonprofit organization which aims to renew, rebuild, and restart the lives of people after cancer through sport. The organization also aims to improve the lives of people suffering from cancer. It runs adventure-therapy retreats for cancer fighters and survivors and organizes several events.

One of these events is the Paddle 4 Cancer or SUP 4 Cancer, a competition which challenges the physical and mental endurance of the participants and benefits the Athletes for Cancer’s SUP & Surf Survivorship Program for adolescents and young adults with cancer.

The 2012 Paddle 4 Cancer takes place on the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon, on the 1st of September. Previous editions of this event took place on Columbia River Gorge. The event was moved to Portland, due to the fact that “the setting provides great visibility for spectators and a unique urban paddling experience” and the city gathers a “growing paddling community” and shares the “passion for health and environment”, as officials state.

The competition is open to SUP, paddleboards and kayaks. There will be great prizes to be awarded and the participants can also attend live concerts, auctions and many other entertaining activities.
