Caio Vaz and Izzi Gomez Win the 2015 SUWT Titles

The U.S. Open, the third and final stop on the 2015 SUWT, turned Oahu’s fabled Sunset Beach into the scene of some incredible SUP action once again. The world’s best riders proved their skills, staging an incredible show.

Caio Vaz beat Sean Poynter in the Semi-Final on Day 6 to reach the final. Zane Schweitzer was the only athlete who could upset the Brazilian but got taken down by the impressive Poenaiki Raioha in the Semi-Final to hand Caio the 2015 Title. The Twenty-One year old Brazilian wins the SUWT after finishing second here at Huntington Beach, Stop 3 as well as second places at Sunset Beach Stop 1 and SapinusPro Stop 2 in Tahiti.

After 2 years of being so close with two 2nd place finishes, the Brazilian Caio Vaz secures his first World Title at just 21 years old. Caio’s laid back attitude disguises a competitive animal within, as he maximized every wave score and posted strings of excellent scores throughout the contest.

On the Women’s side, Izzi Gomez secured her 2nd World Title at the US Open of Stand Up Paddling in Huntington Beach California. Izzi Gomez completed her 2015 World Title winning season with a win at Huntington Beach. She proved incredible strength, showing that she is a leading light for women’s Stand Up Paddle surfing. Although it was not easy, she marched her way through the rounds to take the win at the US Open of Stand Up Paddling.
