Izzi Gomez and Kai Lenny Claim the 2014 Huntington Beach Pro Titles

The 2014 Huntington Beach Pro wrapped up in pure action style, with excellent performance on both the women’s and men’s side.

Fourteen year old Izzi Gomez proved to be the most determined rider on the girls’ side and won her first World Title by claiming the HB Pro title for the second year in a row. She looked strong in the water throughout the entire event and in the semi-finals she took out mentor and fierce competitor Candice Appleby 13.77 to 9.1 in a declining but still very contestable swell.

At the end, she was stoked: “I can’t even explain it right now. I’m so happy.”

On the men’s side, Kai Lenny also repeated his 2013 performance, claiming the Huntington Beach Pro title for the second time in a row. In the semis, Lenny was up against an on-fire Mo Freitas who was going big on every wave, but thanks to his determination and skills, Kai beat Freitas 16.74 to 15.3 with big blow-tails out the back and strong finishing moves in the ankle-breaking shore break. His win brings him closer to the World Title.

At the end he stated: “I just focused on the excellent scores that I knew I needed.”
