Protest Vendée Pro 2012

Period: Apr 19 - Apr 22, 2012
Location: Brétignolles sur Mer, France

The Protest Vendée Pro is an ASP Europe 3-Star event which represents the start of the season in Europe. The competition is a Star event on the ASP Europe Tour for 11 years. This year it takes place between the 19th and 22nd of April in Brétignolles sur Mer, France. Brétignolles sur Mer is located in the Vendée region, a place renowned for hosting various surfing competitions over the year.

The event gathers some of the best riders in Europe and from across the world. Tim Boal (FRA), the current Protest Vendée Pro champ will be expected to defend his title. He stated: “It’s a pretty good wave for a competition, very close to shore etc. If there is swell we’re sure to have good conditions and that’s definitely a plus.. Sometimes it gets complicated with the tides but so far they’ve always managed to finish the event in good conditions.”

Apart from the main Men’s competition, the Protest Vendée Pro also hosts the Bréti Girls Pro Junior event, a competition dedicated to young women.

The event is organized and presented by ASP Europe and sponsored by the Brétignolles sur Mer local council. To find out more about this event, please visit the ASP Europe website.

Gilles Rousseau, event official, stated about the event: “There has been a surfing competition here at La Sauzaie for more than 25 years now, and a Star event on the ASP Europe Tour for 11 years. It started small to grow as a 4-Star event up until last year. Financial difficulties have set us back a little bit in 2012 and the Protest Vendée Pro will be an ASP Europe 3-Star event, but we are strongly supporting the event and keeping our long-term goal of making it a major 6-Star event.”
