Heath Joske Wins the Gold for Team Australia at ISA China Cup

The ISA China Cup is a team event where professional surfers represent their nations in a competition which will determine a champion nation. The ISA China Cup on Hainan Island gathered 48 of the best surfers in the world from around eight countries.

At the ISA China Cup, Team Australia defeated France, South Africa, Argentina, USA, Peru, Brazil and Venezuela and managed to win the champion title. Team Australia was lead to victory by Heath Joske, who won the individual men’s title and took out the Team’s Gold Medal ahead of France. Apart from Joske, Team Australia included Nic Muscroft (Jan Juc, Vic), Blake Thornton (Maroubra, NSW), Dion Atkinson (Seaford, SA), Jessi Mylie-Dyer (Bronte, NSW) and Dimity Stoyle (Sunshine Coast, Qld).

Although Joske had a slow start, he scored an 8.17, a 7.33 and a 9.33 and managed to finish with a 17.50, positioned ahead of Corey Lopez (USA), Marc Lacomare and Muscroft (FRA).

Heath Joske about winning the title: “Surfing is usually an individual sport and to represent your country and win an event like this with team spirit and pride against a super strong field is fantastic...The waves have been great all week, we’re all very familiar with the wave and it’s meant to be even better for the Hainan Classic and I’m confident of a great result for sure.”
