Joel Parkinson Is the 2012 ASP WCT Champ

Congratulations to Joel Parkinson for claiming his maiden ASP World Title on Friday by winning the Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons and proving that he is one of the greatest surfers of all time. The Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons started on Friday with Joel and Kelly Slater tied for the lead in the race towards the 2012 ASP title.

Slater’s lost to Josh Kerr in the semifinals, and Joel’s win were decisive and the Australian proudly claimed the 2012 ASP WCT title. Parko has finished runner-up to the ASP World Title four times in 2002, 2004, 2009 and 2011and his determination and talent recommend him as one of the top surfers on the ASP tour.

At the end of the Billabong Pipe Masters, the 2012 champ said: “Consistency paid off. This is where I wanted to stand at the end of the year. This is what I’ve worked for my whole life. I can’t describe what this feels like. I’ve had runner-ups and ups-and-downs. I’ve been to hell and back and it makes this so much sweeter. All the love from Hawaii and Australia and over the world, I can’t thank you all enough for supporting me. […] This morning I felt like a Champion when I woke up. Like Andy (Irons) always said ‘I got this, huh?’ I dedicate this to my family, Dad who used to take me to contests when I was 10, my wife and my mom and kids, this is all for us.”
