Kelly Slater Claims Quiksilver Pro France Crown

In a dramatic final held in three-to-five foot barrels at La Gaviere, Kelly Slater claimed his 51st elite tour victory. He won the Quiksilver Pro France title after defeating Dane Reynolds in an epic match. Kelly scored a 7.93 and a 9.33 in the opening 10 minutes with impressive tube rides, with Reynolds following closely with other barrels and aerial attempts. However, Reynolds’ performance was not enough to match Kelly’s, who managed to win his first French victory in two decades.

The Quick Pro France marks Kelly Slater’s 51st elite tour victory and the third win of the 2012 season, as he is also the 2012 Fiji and Trestles champ. The victory at Quiksilver Pro France propels him o the 2nd place on the ASP WCT rankings.

Here’s some quick thoughts from Kelly after winning the event: “It has literally been 20 years. I had my first win here 20 years ago and that’s pretty crazy. Obviously when you go out there you want to win the heat, but I would have been really stoked if Dane pulled a 10 out of his hat at the end of the heat, it would have been pretty rad.”
