Kelly Slater Reigns at Lower Trestles

Event number 6 of the ASP World Tour, Hurley Pro came to an end, after a few days of awesome surfing action staged by the elite AS riders. Epic would be the word to describe the final, as surfing titans Kelly Slater and Joel Parkinson clashed in clean three-to-five foot waves in an unreal battle for the title.

The 11X ASP World Champ got off to a quick start in the final. He surfed inside waves in a perfect manner, moving from strength-to-strength throughout the heat and dominating Joel Parkinson. Although Joel had a consistent performance throughout the event, dominating the other riders, he couldn’t simply match Kelly’s performance in the finals.

Kelly Slater has won the Hurley Pro title and scored the 50th elite ASP World Championship Tour win of his career. He now sits third on ASP WCT ratings. Joel Parkinson is positioned above Kelly, ranked third on the ASP WCT agenda. For now, Mick Fanning leads the ASP WCT ratings, sitting on the first place.

Here are a few words from Kelly Slater, at the end of the competition: “I know I went out there feeling like I didn’t have anything to lose because Parko was the form guy. He was pretty much the standout in every round. He schooled Medina (Gabriel Medina) yesterday somehow and was combo’ing everybody. I just figured I had to get myself on the best waves and let go a little bit, but it got really quiet out there. It was the first time something really felt like it went my way when they (the judges) took my priority away. By the time they announced it, Joel was above the wave and couldn’t catch it. That was the turning point for me. Every contest I’ve won, there’s some moment where things go my way. ”
