Taj Burrow Is the 2012 O’Neill Coldwater Classic Champ

Taj Burrow, the elite surfer from Australia has claimed the first place of the podium in the O’Neill Coldwater Classic, Stop No. 9 of 10 on the ASP World Championship Tour. He has defeated Matt Wilkinson in the finals, in consistent six foot waves at Steamer Lane.

Taj made his way through the opening round with surfing with confidence and continued by building momentum throughout the latter rounds. In the final day of the event he amazed the audience and the judges with a stunning variety of forehand maneuvers.

At the end of the event, Taj said: “This win feels incredible. It happens sometimes where you never feel like you have the best heats. I was kind of in the zone. I never really had a good heat the whole event, but I still felt good. It’s such a tricky wave and I guess the only thing that helped was my wave count. That Final was the battle of the back-ups. We both stacked it on a couple and we were in a fluster. Wilko (Matt Wilkinson) fell on that last one and he would have got the score, but I’ll take it.”

The O’Neill Coldwater Classic raised the heat in the race for the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour Champ tiltle, as Kelly Slater lost in Round 5 and Joel Parkinson couldn't pass the Quarterfinals. The Billabong Pipeline Masters taking place between the 8th and 20th of December will be the decisive round for the ASP World title.
