Freeride is one of the most popular windsurfing disciplines and gathers a huge number of fans. Some of them are entry level sailors who enjoy a smooth cruise and others are hardcore riders and love extreme speeds. The Starboard Futura is crafted especially for the second category, for dedicated freeride professionals. The board is engineered using a special shaping technology, based on a proportional width to volume ratio, similar to slalom boards. This feature generates a unique blend of stability and control. At the same time, the Futura is thinner than other freeride boards, so it is much more maneuverable in a wide range of conditions.
The board boosts maximum bottom end performance and can reach impressive speeds when it is used with larger sails and fins. At the same time it can be used with smaller fins and sails if the wind and wave conditions require it. The thinner profile of the board allows it to perform quick and responsive carve jibes. The Futura uses a domed deck which can accommodate inboard or outboard footstraps positions. The inboard positions are recommended to less experienced riders. The domed deck also keeps the rider very comfortable as he sails around. The harder rail edges in the tail area assure a clean and quick release and improve early planning performance. They also allow the board to maintain a constant speed during maneuvers and provide a good acceleration when exiting a jibe.
The deep deck concaves define a lower center of gravity which improves stability and reduces swing weight. Due to the fact that the gap between sail and deck is not present, the mast track can be moved back to improve top speed without affecting maneuverability. The Starboard Futura is available in Wood, Wood Carbon and Technora editions. Technora Carves are extremely tough and can be used in extreme surf conditions without hassle.
