4.0/5

The new Ice is North’s World Cup Wave sail. It is a new breed of sailing machine which blends extraordinary power with top control and offers an exciting ride. The Ice is very dynamic and powerful, so it is perfect for radical riders who enjoy surfing in extreme conditions and perform spectacular tricks. North has engineered the sail using a compact profile which provides optimal control and good power delivery.

The reduced foil tension makes the sail very responsive and easy to handle. At the same time the backward oriented center of effort assures a comfortable and smooth drive. The refined luff curve assures improved maneuverability in a wide wind range. A new, straight foot design allows the rider to use all the power generated by the sail to perform radical moves and get closer to the impact zone. The sail deploys plenty of power and can tackle any wave without problems. North has fine tuned the leech tension which works in conjunction with the modified luff curve to help the rider pump the sail easier onto a plane and control it without hassle. A new Twin Trim Clew system allows the rider to tune the sail and increase the usage range according to his specific needs.

The sail is designed using a solid five battens skeleton which keeps it extremely stable in all conditions. The North Ice offers best performance when it is used with RDM masts, but it can also be rigged on SMD masts. The Ice is available in standard monofilm version and in a special hardcore X-Ply model. The X-Ply Ice is more durable and a perfect tool for extremely tough surf conditions.

The 2011 Ice is lighter than the 2010 version. It has the same low end, but power delivery is smoother and the sail feels easier to throw around. It also goes neutral really easy and lets you perform many tricks.
